About The Role:

The Hydrographic Surveyor is responsible for contributing to all technical activities within the hydrographic survey department and will report directly to the Hydrographic Survey Manager. The Hydrographer will be committed to the success of the Hydrography Division.

The Hydrographic Surveyor will specifically be responsible for:

  • Working under the applicable regulations and requirements of GEOSIGHT and the industry
  • Assisting with technical aspects of conducting hydrographic survey operations including vessel mobilisation, data acquisition, processing and reporting of hydrographic data
  • Ensuring all equipment/sensors in use are kept in good condition
  • Assisting the vessel master in issues of safety
  • Correct use of the survey equipment and software and reporting any misuse or issues to the chief surveyor/technical manager
  • Checking hire kit in/out against packing lists provided by the hire company
  • Ensuring that all equipment is cleaned and correctly packed away on demobilisation from project
  • Ensuring that all data is copied onto an external HDD and that the processing manager is made aware in advance that data will be arriving
  • Any other tasks as directed by the senior surveyor/party chief
  • Assisting with technical queries from clients and GEOSIGHT team members
  • Working as part of a team of technical specialists
  • Supporting the hydrographic survey manager to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Contributing to hydrographic survey strategies regarding projects, tasks, and operations current and future.
  • Supporting the hydrographic survey manager to ensure that project/department milestones/goals are met.
  • Developing an extensive knowledge of hydrographic and department processes.
  • Reporting any potential technical issues relating to clients, project over-runs, etc. to hydrographic survey manager and/ or Managing Director
  • Any other duties and responsibilities as the hydrographic survey manager/directors see fit for the role

 

Day to day duties may include:

  • Project Administration, Client Liaison & Resource Allocation – staff, equipment, vehicles, HSE etc.
  • Assisting with complex fieldwork projects
  • Mobilisation of survey vessels including conducting equipment calibrations and verifications
  • Hydrographic data acquisition and assisting colleagues with technical issues during fieldwork
  • Hydrographic data processing, reporting and & assisting with QA of completed projects
  • Liaising with clients by telephone, email, reports and in meetings as required
  • Attending site meetings as required
  • Maintaining & keeping up to date project information with ASANA project management software
  • Communicating with survey managers any risks to projects in regard to project milestones and deadlines.

 

Requirements for the role of Hydrographer will be:

  • Competence in all hydrographic surveying procedures,
  • Competent user of hydrographic survey instrumentation and software – GNSS, MRU, Multibeam Echosounders, Sidescan Sonars.
  • Excellent communicator at all levels both internally within all ranks of the team and externally to all stakeholders in hydrographic survey work.

 

Additional Duties of the Hydrographic Surveyor may include:

  • Keeping abreast of technical developments within the industry
  • Identifying new business opportunities
  • Assisting with client management and business development
  • Assisting with the development of a strong team of competent and qualified personnel
  • Presenting services and capabilities to new and potential clients
  • Personnel development and training according to ICES and/ or RICS framework
  • Informal and formal communication to Directors and staff members including written reports and submission of evidence in scenarios where policies and procedures are not adhered to by other members of staff.
